Lyst's latest trend report reveals that
consumers are increasingly drawn to products that create
emotional resonance
My mission is to turn everyday digital consumption into an engaging, emotionally resonant experience.
By reimagining drink delivery with playful, game-inspired interactions, I want to design not just for efficiency but also for joy, stress relief, and connection.
At its core, this project reflects a human-centered approach: technology should not only serve practical needs but also nurture people's emotions and well-being.
inspiration
To learn more about interaction design, I gather ideas during school breaks and treated project design as an enjoyable form of self-learning.
China's tea-based beverage market is crowded, and consumers often face choice overload. In a landscape where most customers are accustomed to ordering through digital platforms, innovations in interactive experiences could help brands deliver emotional value, allowing them to stand out among the many choices.
The project goal is to reimagine the everyday drink-ordering process by introducing playful, stress-relief elements inspired by cooking games.
Preparation Phase: Consumer Behavior Survey
When asked about the factors influencing their purchase decisions, respondents placed the greatest emphasis on practical value, followed closely by aesthetic value and price.
Emotional value also played a notable role, with about 59.8% rating it important or very important.

Among the 92 respondents, over 88% reported using food delivery apps to order drinks on a weekly basis.
Notably, 41% ordered four times or more per week, indicating that this consumption pattern is both widespread and frequent.
37% of respondents reported that "too many brand options make it hard to decide," making it the most common pain point.
18% felt bored while waiting and passed the time by scrolling on their phones.

Key Insights
Users welcome playful and emotionally engaging features, as long as they do not compromise efficiency.
Gamified interaction can turn routine tasks, like ordering a drink, into moments of delight and stress relief.
Beyond the Prototype: Exploring New Interactions

This project is the beginning of my exploration into playful and engaging interfaces. Moving forward, I aim to refine the prototype based on potential concerns raised in user feedback.
Beyond improvement, I also wonder: can game-like interactions extend their value to other transactional apps such as ticket booking, bringing not just efficiency, but also delight, into everyday digital experiences?
While this project primarily examined interaction design within beverage ordering, a broader research direction lies in understanding how emotional value shapes consumer behavior. Future exploration could investigate how interactive elements, visualization, personalization, or playful mechanisms amplify emotional values, and how designs may influence decision-making, brand loyalty, and even cross-industry applications—from retail to cultural experiences.
